Frequently Asked Questions
Please do not email with questions that have already
been answered here. You will unlikely get a reply.
1. Is this music Free to use?
Yes, but you MUST visibly accredit it in any projects you use it in (See question 3)
That’s all you've got to do - no need to contact me asking if it’s ok to use my music, this covers you for personal and commercial (money generating) use.
2. Can I use it for my amateur film?
Even if I end up selling the film and making lots of cash?
Yes, but you MUST visibly accredit it in any projects you use it in as shown in question 3
A good-will donation would always be appreciated but is not compulsory :o)
2a. Can I use it for my podcast, radio show, commercial, trade stand etc ?
Yes, any performance or public broadcast is permitted, but you MUST visibly accredit the music
in any projects you use it in, as shown in question 3
If you are unable to accredit the music, please purchase an attribution release licence.
3. How do I accredit the music?
Include the following accreditation term somewhere visibly in your project:
Free Music from:
Music4YourVids.co.uk
If you have used multiple pieces of my music, or have included other people’s music in your project, then use the following credit:
Music
(name of pieces of music used)
Music4YourVids.co.uk
The credit / attribution is usually placed in the credits at the end of a video or in the video notes area.
A clickable link to this web site is always appreciated where possible.
That’s it! That’s all you've got to do - no need to contact me asking if it’s ok to use my music, this covers you for personal and commercial use.
4. Can I lengthen / shorten / dissect the music?
You are welcome to chop and fade the music wherever you choose, or dissect it up and re-arrange / extend those segments so that the tempo, timing and lengths match up to your requirements. - this is perfectly OK to do.
5. Can I take parts of these songs and mix them into something else?
No - that is classed as re-mixing (see next question).
You can only use the music as it is with the exception of length/tempo.
6. Please explain the "can’t remix" rule
The can't remix rule is just to prevent any copyright issues on derived creations. What is meant by you ‘can’t remix' the music, is that it can't be used to create a new, different piece of music. For example, you can't take parts (or all) of the music and then mix it into a new drum beat and / or overlay voice or additional music - and then claim the resulting track as your own.
If you want to add additional drums / instruments / sounds as part of any video presentation - then this is OK, but the copyright will still remain the property of Rick Clarke, and the accreditation is still required.
7. Can I use this music for revenue-sharing if I am a YouTube partner?
Yes, absolutely! Make money from my music, but you MUST visibly accredit the music correctly as demonstrated in question 3 above.
I have placed a special information page for YouTube partners and people who are being asked for music rights clarification here
8. YouTube are asking me to provide proof of my rights to use this music, what do I tell them?
I have created a page specifically for this purpose here
8(b). I have a "Matched 3rd Party Content" claim on my YouTube video!
What should I do?
I have created a page specifically for this purpose here
9. Can I use this music in a commercial video?
Yes, but you MUST visibly accredit it in any projects you use it in as described in question 3 above.
If you are unable to accredit the music, please purchase an attribution release licence.
10. What do I do if I am unable to accredit the music in my project?
You can buy an accreditation/attribution release licence - they are very cheap and will cover ALL of your future projects, so you only ever need to buy it once for each piece of music you use. click here for details
11. How visible must the accreditation be?
If someone seeing your project wants to find out who did the music, they should be able to find out easily. The information should be readily and easily available without the need to ask or hunt for it.
12. What happens if I use your music but don’t accredit it
You could be billed for a past-due attribution-release licence for each piece of music, and for each project you use it in, plus the cost of any legal and administrative fees incurred to collect any past due amounts.
In other words - don’t do it!
13. Can you create music to order?
